about

My 2nd EP: four experimental jungle- hardcore- and footwork-influenced tracks.

“Stay on the Streets” is a dubby half-time track bathed in echoes of 80s pop Americana (see if you can spot who).

“Eyes on Me” is a jungle track I made very quickly after seeing Sherelle’s epic 2019 Boiler Room set. It’s not really like the sound of that set at all, but what I took from it was a sense of excitement. It explores the space between dancefloor energy and a melancholy sense of alienation or come-down - kind of a classic rave/hardcore theme.

“Shut ‘Em Down” starts with a similar chopped & screwed breaks / jungle / hardcore flavour that kicks up a notch into a different bassline-flavoured zone in the 2nd half. I like that some of the words could be taken as a light piss-take of electronic music’s reverence for Berlin.

“Hat to the Back” is obviously very influenced by footwork, but you wouldn’t mistake it for footwork from its real practitioners. It’s a mutation having fun with rhythms, and with a melodic sensibility. It’s another one done quickly and simply - I’m happy that it came out quite tightly structured, almost like a pop song.
